CNB Joins My Soldier Program

Citizens National Bank of Elkins has joined the “My Soldier” program in partnership with Manhattanville College of New York to enlist area residents to adopt soldiers serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa.

“The My Soldier program for Randolph and surrounding counties is being implemented by ‘The Dream Team,’ one of Citizens National’s Total Quality Management (TQM) teams. The bank is comprised of eleven TQM teams, each responsible for at least one community or civic activity annually.

“Words and care packages from the home front to soldiers who may not be receiving any mail or correspondences will certainly lift the spirit of men and women serving their country thousands of miles away,” commented team member Mystee Price. “Our team will kick off the My Soldier program for this area at a booth at the upcoming Chamber of Commerce Taste of WV Holidays. If you or your family is interested in showing support to our troops by establishing a pen-pal relationship with one of them, please stop by and register for a soldier’s name.”

Nationally, the My Soldier program has been a big success; according to the program website, typically 50 percent of the soldiers respond to their letters but 100 percent appreciate the correspondences. My Soldier has received national media attention in Newsweek, The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, NBC, Fox News, and elsewhere.

“With the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays approaching, a care package or card sent off to a soldier in the war zone could make a real difference in their lives,” further stated Price. “By enrolling in the program, you will have the opportunity to write and support a deployed United States Armed Serviceperson serving in a hardship area.”

Care package suggestions and ideas, as well as letter guidelines, will also be made available at Citizens National Bank’s Taste of WV Holidays Booth – Saturday, November 12 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM in the Elkins High School gymnasium. Participants stopping by CNB’s booth will be eligible to win collector holiday coins and My Soldier hats and bracelets – no purchase is necessary to register.

Citizens National Bank is a $237 million bank with offices in Elkins, Parsons, Beverly, Petersburg, Snowshoe and Marlinton. It is a subsidiary of Citizens Financial Corp. thriving as a full service commercial bank with trust and investment services.
